Well, I hate to say it, but we have been deceived by both conventional and "natural" health "experts" when it comes to sugar. It is a lie that most people have completely been sold on, including me, until recently.
Sugar has taken the fall for weight gain and obesity, many diseases such as Alzheimer's and diabetes, it's been blamed for blood sugar dysfunction, hyperactivity disorders, depression/anxiety, and more.
And I agree.. sugar, on its own, (without properly balanced macronutrients) and the low quality/fake forms that most people are consuming, are a recipe for disaster. Especially when eaten in conjunction with the PUFA pandemic (the real pandemic if you ask me), we have a serious problem on our hands.
Essentially, sugar is a magical superfood. BUT it's all about context. If you're going to consume both sugar and PUFAs, you're going to gain weight.
If you're going to consumer sugar alone without adequate protein and a bit of fat, you're going to have imbalanced blood sugar, which will lead to hormonal imbalances.
If you consume fake sugars (even the "natural" ones like stevia) in hopes you are tricking your body - you're not. Your body is smarter than that and you will unfortunately pay the price.

My favorite forms of sugar are:
1️⃣ Fruit + Fruit Juice
2️⃣ Honey
3️⃣ Maple Syrup
I consume panela and brown sugar from time to time, but honey, maple syrup, and fruit juice pack the best punch of nutrients and are my go-to always.
If you’re dealing with gut conditions such as SIBO or Candida, some forms of sugar may be irritating to you, especially starches like potatoes, grains, etc. However, sugar from things like honey and orange juice can be extremely therapeutic and healing, rather than irritating.
Now, go enjoy your sugar! Just make sure you’re consuming it with plenty of protein + ditching the PUFAs.
